Bangladesh v Bangladesh Cricket Board XI ? West Indies tour of Bangladesh (Warm-up match) ? Match Update

In what might be an ill omen of things to come, Bangladesh found themselves conceding a 5-wicket defeat at the hands of the Bangladesh Cricket Board XI, in a warm-up match prior to their upcoming ODI series against the touring West Indies side, played at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on November 27.

The BCB XI won the toss and elected to field first, but barring Tamim Iqbal (72 off 67, including 13 boundaries), none of Bangladesh?s specialist batsmen managed to put up a convincing show. Tamim?s fellow opener Anamul Haque (9) failed to rack up the runs, as did Mahmudullah (10), and while Naeem Islam (31), wicketkeeper skipper Mushfiqur Rahim (35) and Nasir Hossain (32) all managed to pass the 30-run mark, they were unable to apply themselves at the crease for long.

The BCB XI?s bowlers were led by Enamul Haque jnr (9-0-31-3), with Elias Sunny (7-0-33-2), Asif Ahmed (6-0-39-1), and Al-Amin Hossain (10-0-44-1) serving as supporting bowlers. The attack managed to reduce their opponents to 194 for 5 by the 37th over ? however, all-rounder Marshall Ayub salvaged the team?s pride to some extent, contributing an unbeaten 37, including 1 six and 3 fours. Tail-enders Mashrafe Mortaza (6), Sohag Gazi (12), and Abdur Razzak (9*) were unable to do much, but Ayub led his side up to a decent 272 for 8 by the end of 50 overs.

Bangladesh?s bowlers, however, failed to launch an effective defence of their total. All-rounder Mahmudullah (7-0-27-2) remained the highest wicket-taker, while the specialist bowlers appeared to lack potency. Senior left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak did not seem to pose any difficulties for the BCB XI batsmen, and only managed to claim one wicket, as did Abul Hasan and Sohag Gazi.

The BCB XI?s opening batsman Imrul Kayes (53) drove the earlier part of the team?s innings, and was aided by fellow opener Jahurul Islam (34), Mominul Haque (45), and skipper Asif Ahmed (34). By the 38th over, the team was at 188 for 5, but Ziaur Rahman took charge with a composed 51*, and his unbeaten 86-run partnership with Farhad Reza (38*) led them easily to 274, with 5 wickets and 5 balls remaining.
