WASHINGTON (AP) ? A Republican senator is boycotting a hearing on President Barack Obama's nominee for No. 2 at the Department of Homeland Security.
Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma is the senior Republican on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. Coburn says it's unfair to hold the hearing on Alejandro Mayorkas (Alle-HAND-dro My-OR-cas). He cites an investigation into the nominee's role in helping a politically connected company get a foreign investor visa.
Other Republican senators on the committee say they may follow Coburn's lead.
Mayorkas' nomination hit a snag this week after The Associated Press reported on the investigation into his role in helping get a foreign investor visa for Tony Rodham's Gulf Coast Funds Management.
