Family-Friendly Staycation Strategies
Staycations have become an increasingly popular alternative for families and singles who would prefer not to go to the expense and hassle of traveling for leisure purposes. Although many people opt for a staycation rather than a sojourn in another location because of financial considerations, others simply find traveling stressful. No matter which category you fall into, the purpose of leisure time is to leave you recharged and rejuvenated so that you can return to work or?school ready to give your challenges your best shot. Following are some ideas for staycationers on a budget.
Take Advantage of Your Local Library
If your staycation will involve little ones, be sure to investigate the programs offered by your local library. Most municipal libraries have reading programs, and some also offer free or low cost movies. Your local?parks department may have a summer recreation program, and opportunities for fun may also exist through your church. Neighborhood play groups are another option for keeping active children occupied.
Make Mealtimes Into an Adventure
Naturally, you'll want to include some trips to family-friendly eating establishments in your staycation itinerary, but you can also put away the credit card and save?money and use the home-cooked evening meal as a chance to create mini-vacations. For instance, one evening could be a trip to a tropical island where everyone sips fruity punch and feasts on island fare. The next night, you could visit a sun-splashed Italian villa where you enjoy a traditional Italian meal, while the following evening could feature hot dogs and hamburgers cooked over a campfire during a backyard camp out.
