Yeshiva University slapped with $380 million child sex abuse lawsuit

(Scroll down for video) A prestigious Jewish university in New York City was slapped with a nearly $400 million lawsuit after numerous students suffered sexual abuse at the facility, according to a new lawsuit filed in New York.

Nineteen former students from Yeshiva University High School have filed a $380 million lawsuit against the prestigious Jewish institution claiming horrific acts of sexual abuse that spanned over 20 years in the Manhattan school.

"Yeshiva University High School portrayed itself as an exemplary Jewish school when in fact, they were allowing known sexual predators to roam the school at will looking for more victims," ?? attorney Kevin Mulhearn, who filed the suit in the name of nineteen applicants, said. "Child sexual abuse in the Orthodox Jewish community can no longer be tolerated and justified," he said.

One victim claimed that administrators ignored his protests when he complained that a teacher of Jewish studies raped him with a toothbrush. Other victims, the children of Holocaust survivors, said that a former principal convinced them not to tell their parents of the sexual abuse because their parents had suffered enough.

The 148-page lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in White Plains, accused yeshiva officials of ignoring the sexual abuse allegations for fear that it could harm fundraising efforts and break the reputation of the school.
The abuse took place between 1969 and 1989, according to the lawsuit.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
