Blue Jays reliever Rauch placed on 15-day DL (AP)

TORONTO ? Blue Jays reliever Jon Rauch has been placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday because of a cartilage tear in his right knee.

The right-hander plans to be examined next week by knee specialist Dr. Richard Steadman in Vail, Colo. The team's medical staff has recommended surgery, which would have a likely recovery time of six-to-eight weeks.

Monday's move is retroactive to Sept. 5. Rauch is 5-4 with 11 saves and a 4.85 ERA.
