HUDSON, N.C. (AP) ? Various animal rescue agencies will pick up the almost 300 dogs seized from what authorities say was a puppy mill in Caldwell County for rehabilitation and medical care.
The 276 dogs taken Thursday from Mason Creek Kennel in Hudson were undergoing medical evaluations Friday at a temporary shelter at the Caldwell County Fairgrounds. Rescue groups will pick the animals this week and keep them until their medical care is finished and Caldwell County authorities officially release them.
The agencies taking the dogs are: Humane Society of Charlotte; Guilford County Animal Shelter; Saving Grace Rescue and Carolina Animal Rescue & Adoption of Sanford.
The kennel's owner has said his dogs are healthy.
Caldwell County Animal Control Director Greg Greene says the kennel surrendered 37 dogs last week, but all were euthanized.
